Welcome to the virtual world of Minecraft where players explore realms of open terrain filled with icy mountains, swampy bayous, vast pastures, creepy caves and perilous ravines. Along the way, players encounter secrets, wonders and perils. Our nephew, Dylan, is a tech savvy seven year old. His favorite game, Minecraft, inspired this year’s birthday party. We are excited to share our Minecraft adventures with you.
Minecraft was created by Swedish game developer Markus Persson in 2011. Minecraft allows players to explore, craft and combat in its three dimensional virtual world. Microsoft acquired the company in 2014 and the game currently has 91 million monthly active players. We love that the game is only limited by the player’s imagination.
We incorporated key elements of Minecraft into our decor. The Minecraft Creeper inspired the party’s green, brown and black color palette.
We hosted the party at L-3 Academy, a learning and birthday facility that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Setup time at children’s facilities vary from venue to venue. We highly recommend asking the facility when you have access to the party room as that will dictate your decorating time. At L-3, we were able to decorate while the kids started their Minecraft adventures in the computer room. We had Creeper plates and napkins and served a cheese plate, fruit platter and crudite. For beverages we served juice boxes and bottled water. The highlight of table was our Creeper cake from Creative Confections.
We also placed Minecraft balloons in the middle of the room. Some facilities allow you to use tape for decorations, while others don’t. We recommend asking in advance if you want to use letter balloons.
Minecraft is a sandbox game, where the player creates the game by manipulating the world within it. This experience is similar to real life kids playing in the sand. There are no specific goals, so everyone playing the game will have their own unique experience. The Minecraft adventures were approximately 45 minutes.
After the game play, the children entered the party room for snacks, drinks and cake.
The children departed with a box of goodies including lollipops, yo-yos, a balloon and Penny Janes Cookies. Julie custom designed the cookies in Creeper, TNT, Chicken and Piggy. They were almost to adorable to eat.
Dylan and his friends loved their Minecraft adventure. Special thanks to Creative Confections and Penny Janes Cookies for making our magnificent, mouthwatering Minecraft desserts.
“Minecraft is a game about creation, yes. But it is just as much a game about secret knowledge.” – Robin Sloan
This is such a fun party idea! My LO’s one love it
Oh man I know these little kids had a blast, what a fun party!
This is the cutest idea for a party ever! I love all the themed-goodies. That cake is especially great!
Seems so cute!!! I’m positive the kids had so much fun and even some adults, if not all!
What a great theme for a party! I’m still a bit young for minecraft but can’t wait to try it when I’m older.
I’ve heard so much about these Minecraft games. But I have yet to play the game myself. This party shows me exactly what I’ve been missing out on.
what a fun theme for a 7 year old. I honestly dread the day that my kids discover technology. My oldest is 5 and he’s the only kid on our block that doesn’t have an ipad and doesn’t already play games like this. I’d rather him and his little brother play with their toys and be kids for a little while long. #momlifeproblems lol but really, the way the birthday party you shared came together looks amazing!
This is such a fun and very creative way for this kind of occasion. This will definitely a big hit for our kids and nice concept.
