Margaritas are the answer, but I don’t remember the question. Saddle up margarita lovers because today is National Margarita Day. If you are looking for National Margarita Day ideas in NYC, we have you covered. Chef Rick Bayless recently opened Tortazo, an upscale fast casual Mexican restaurant in Flatiron NYC. Their fabulous Margarita tasting is the perfect way to celebrate National Margarita Day. We are excited to share our dining experience at Tortazo.
What is National Margarita Day?
The weatherman predicts that 2/22 is a perfect day to enjoy a margarita or two. February 22nd is the day to grab your favorite Margarita and celebrate National Margarita Day. Commercial real estate agent Todd McCalla created the holiday in 2008 to celebrate this love of margaritas. This classic cocktail is made made with tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice. Margaritas also come in lots of varieties from strawberry to mango, frozen or on the rocks and sweet, sour, spicy or bitter. Skinny versions are also available (think Bethany Frankle’s Skinny Girl Margarita).

Where to Celebrate National Margarita Day: Tortazo
It’s Mexcellent. We’ve seen Rick Bayless many times on Top Chef and were excited that he opened a fast casual restaurant right around the corner from us. Tortazo is located in Flatiron on Broadway between 25th and 26th. Tortazo is inspired by the bold food, colors and culture of Mexico. Tortazo‘s menu features scrumptious griddle-crisped tortas, comforting chilaquiles, hearty handcrafted bowls, seasonal salads, crispy churros and lots of margaritas.

What to Order to Drink on National Margarita Day: Tortazo Margarita Tasting
Take life with a grain of salt,… plus a slice of lemon,… and a shot of tequila.” Tortazo’s Margarita Tasting features four margaritas for $16. Don’t worry these are tasting portions and probably equal the size of one normal margarita.
- El Super Classico: Classic margarita with tequila, royal combier and lime juice.
- Jalisco Heat: Jalapeno-infused tequila and elderflower.
- El Beso: Tequila with royal combier and rose water.
- Ancho Mezcal: Mezcal, ancho reyes liqueur, royal combier and agave.

I love it when you call me Margarita. Our favorite was the Jalisco Heat Margarita. It had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy with Jalapeno and elderflower.

What to Order to Eat at Tortazo
You guac my world. We started with the Guacamole and Spicy Churro Bites. The Spicy Churro Bites were quite unique and topped with chipotle-cotija cheese. The guac was also quite tasty and you can never really go wrong with starting you meal with guacamole.

Quesa deal with it. Next we tried the Mojo Chicken Quesadilla with bacon, tomatoes, jack cheese, cilantro crema and the Steak and Mushroom Quesadilla with poblano rajas, jack cheese, cilantro crema.

I’ve bean thinking about margaritas all day. We also ordered the Tortazo Chilaquiles Bowl with poblano rajas, jack & cotija cheese, black beans, tortilla strips, salsa roja.

It’s guac-ward. The Chipotle-Roasted Chicken Bowl was also yummy. It has avocado, poblano rajas, cotija cheese, black beans, tortilla strips, chipotle salsa and cilantro crema.

Churro’all I need. You can’t end the night without Cinnamon Sugar Churros.

Seriously look at how cute this heart shaped dessert is? Have you ever seen a cuter Mexican dessert?
