Oktoberfest is a cultural phenomenon in Munich, Bavaria Germany. Don’t worry! You don’t have to travel all the way to Munich to enjoy Oktoberfest. Zum Schneider, a Bavarian Bierhaus and German Restaurant, annually hosts Munich on the East River in New York. This is one of the most authentic celebrations outside of Munich. We enjoyed the festival so much last year that we decided to attend it again this year.
This year marks the 184th Oktoberfest, which runs from September 16 through October 3rd in Munich (September 29 through October 8th at Zum Schneider in NYC). Oktoberfest originally took place in October, but as it grew and the duration was extended, the start date was moved to mid-September. This allows for better weather and a more enjoyable experience for festival attendees.
Upon entry, you’ll be instantly transported to Bavaria.
We highly recommend Reserved Seating inside the tent and purchasing tickets under a group name so that your party can be seated together. You can purchase tickets here.
The tent will be open on:
September 29 through October 8th
24-20 Fdr Drive Service Rd
New York, NY, 10010
Tickets:
General Seating $28
Reserved Seating $38
VIP Seating $100
What To Expect?
At Munich on the East River, expect to see authentic German attire, drink lots of beer, munch on pretzels, listen to live music and dance the night away.

What To Wear?
Dressing up is part of the fun of Oktoberfest!
Lederhosen: (Lay-der-hose-in) literal translation is “leather pants.” Men wear these trousers, some short and some to the knee, held up by a pair of leather suspenders
Dirndl: (Dern-dull) traditional German dress worn by ladies
Ladyhosen: (Lay-dee-hose-in) leather pants worn by ladies
Afterwards, we crashed our friend Pierre’s rooftop party.
Weekend tickets sell out quickly, so buy them in advance! If you still need convincing, check out our video from last week’s Munich on the East River.

Such a fun event full of great food, drink and events. I would love for us to dress up in the traditional style and attend this.
We were just at Oktoberfest in Helen, Georgia last week and it was so much fun! I got a big pretzel, one of my favorites, and my husband got some German beer. I’ll bet the one there in New York is even bigger and better!
Holy cow! This would be so much fun to go to with my husband. I think we’d have a blast.
What a fun event to go to! I wouldn’t mind eating all of the food while the hubby drink all the beer! LOL And how cool that you can dress up too! Love it!

Hhhhmmm….since I quit alcohol, I would definitely have all the chicken I can have (hihi), as I watch on the live band play! You guys must have had a blast.

Wow! This is awesome. It is nice to know that more people are celebrating Octoberfest around the world. Thank you for sharing what to wear. I had no idea that there’s a dress code for it but it just made the celebration more fun.
