Time to get ship faced and a little nauti. Today we sail back in time to our friends’ Alex and Rob’s wedding cruise. Our adventure began and ended in Fort Lauderdale with stops in Key West and the Bahamas. We are excited to share our first cruise experience with you.
Alex and Rob picked the perfect time of the year for a Florida and Caribbean cruise. December to April tends to have the best weather when the days are drier, yet not too hot or humid. A March wedding cruise is the perfect escape from the cold winters in NYC.
We got into ship shape aboard the Celebrity Infinity at Fort Lauderdale. We checked into our ocean view room and were greeted with a Celebrity Vintage champagne and mouth watering chocolate covered strawberries. Alex and Rob are cruise experts and they gave us lanyards to clip our room keys. You’ll use your room key for food and beverages throughout the cruise, so with a lanyard, you don’t have worry about it or lose it.
Our first day started with welcome drinks to toast the happy couple.
We sipped cocktails while listening to live music.
Cheers to the perfect start to a wonderful wedding weekend.
We went to Trellis for an amazing three course meal. We started with a coconut soup and then roasted chicken and ravioli and concluded the meal with a strawberry cheesecake.
We sailed overnight from from Fort Lauderdale to Key West. We had a few hours to explore Key West. We recommend walking along the narrow streets and visiting vintage shops, eateries and watering holes, historic homes, art galleries. Remember to bring your room key, money, passport, sunscreen and camera.
After our short day trip to Key West, we came back to the boat and dined at Trellis. We started with champagne and enjoyed a combination of Indian and Italian food for dinner. We concluded our meal with chocolate cake a la mode.
The next day we got dressed up for Alex and Rob’s wedding.
The wedding featured a nautical theme. We were greeted with a Welcome Aboard navy and white Buoy.
The signing table was decorated with red roses and R & A lights.
The wedding ceremony was beautiful and the wedding toast was lovely.
The wedding cake featured adorable ducks in tuxedos and nautical anchors. The table was sprinkled with red and white roses.
The next day, we docked in Nassau in the Bahamas. We had the option to explore Nassau, but we already visited this island in high school, so we opted for a scenic boat ride to Pearl Island.
Upon arrival, we walked past a beautiful lighthouse and relaxed on one of the two pristine beaches on the island.
Some of our friends took a dip in the the crystal-clear Caribbean waters, but we enjoyed walking and exploring the island and taking in the views. From this island, you can go snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding or just lounge on the white sand beaches.
We sipped pineapple cocktails and ate a Bahamian lunch. Our Pearl Island adventure was a great way to spend the day with the couple and get to know their friends.
Our first cruise was a lot of fun and we want to share our top travel tips for booking your first cruise:
- Book early, which gives you more choice over room as well as potential free upgrades and/or discounts
- Pack light, including washable quick-drying clothes, bathing suits, casual wear, cocktail dress or jacket and tie, cardigans for chilly nights, walking shoes, dress shoes and flip flops
- Bring an extension cord since electrical outlets are limited and not always accessible
- Plan to arrive early, if you are flying in, fly to the port the day before so you won’t miss the boat
- Bring a lanyard to clip your room key
- Set your phone to airplane mode to avoid roaming charges
- Cruise ships offer Wifi, but it can be pricey and slow
- Consider all-you-can-drink packages
- Most ships automatically add gratuities
Alex and Rob, congrats again and thanks so much for letting us be a part of your special day. We had an amazing time and we were naut yet ready to get off the ship.
You can find tranquility, you can find party, you can find new friends. I’m a cruise convert.

I keep seeing so many posts about cruises lately. I hope that I get to go on one soon.
This is nice experience and I wish I can be in one of these cruise trips to enjoy the ocean or sea. Whatever, as long as I can afford to be in one haha.
It seems like a great experience to be on the cruise and I recently did one in River Nile. Yours has reminded mine too.
What a great wedding and I saw a lot of foods and that makes me hungry lol
I’m so scared of cruises lol. It will take alot of convincing for me to do one lol
Your beautiful pictures say it all. What an awesome adventure.
Hey Rose Ann,
The idea of a wedding cruise is tantalizing ?
Something to consider for my 25th wedding anniversary perhaps.
Lovely photos too.
Thanks for sharing.
