We hope your Labor Day weekend was as spectacular as ours. We flew out to Minnesota to celebrate the marriage of our cousin Gaurav and his fiancé, Olivia. This unique wedding combined Hindu, Irish and Jewish rituals. We are excited to share this multi-cultural wedding with you.
Indian weddings are typically multi-day affairs. Saturday began with a traditional Pelli Koduku ceremony to purify the groom and prepare him for the wedding. The groom’s mother placed kumkuma on groom’s forehead, followed by sandal paste or Gandham on his neck and back of his palm. She also blessed her son. The guests followed the same process to bless the groom. At the end of the ceremony, Aarati is offered to the groom by his sisters and cousins.
Later that evening, we attended a Welcome Dinner. A henna artist created beautiful artworks on the guests. Gaurav’s cousins, nieces and nephews surprised the bride and groom with Bollywood dances.
The wedding was held at a Country Club. The ceremony was unique in bringing together Hindu, Jewish and Irish traditions.
After the ceremony, we took some gorgeous shots with our family.
Afterwards, we headed into the reception for a seated dinner. The food was delicious and we sat with our cousins and danced the night away. We had a wonderful time celebrating Olivia and Gaurav.

What a beautiful event. The pictures are so colorful! It is great that the kids are also part of the event.
How special that they were able to incorporate traditions from two different cultures in a way that looked very seamless. I know that wasn’t an easy task, but it looks like not only did bride and groom enjoy, but the family as well.
I’ve heard that Indian weddings are so much fun! This looks like a wonderful combination of the cultures of both the bride and groom.
