Get the party star-dead. Today is Dia de los Muertos and we have some of the best Day of the Dead party ideas for you. Dia de los Muertos translates into Day of the Dead. On this day, we remember loved ones. This Mexican holiday begins on October 31st and ends on November 2nd. The spirits of children arrive on October 31st and adult spirits follow the next day. Our Day of the Dead party ideas include lots of skulls, skeletons and homemade Mexican bites. We are excited to share our Dia de los Muerto party with you.
Day of the Dead Party Ideas: How to Create a Beautiful Tablescape?
I just want some body to love. We used a black, white and orange color palette for our Day of the Dead dinner party. May of our Day of the Dead party ideas include lots of calacas figures (skeletons) and calavera (skulls).
Lift your spirits. We dressed the table with a white tablecloth and vibrant Day of the Dead table runner. This table runner is gorgeous and does most of the decorating for you. This Day of the Dead table runner features two full skeletons, floral crowns and lots of colorful flowers.
Bad to the bone. We layered colorful bone china Day of the Dead plates on red melamine plates. Each place setting also had a Day of the Dead napkin.
Dancing scream. Our centerpieces featured a hand painted Dia de los Muerto skull and dancing skeleton couple. Our floral arrangements included orange carnations and purple salvia.
Day of the Dead Party Ideas: What Food to Serve?
Bone appetite. Our three course meal began with chips and homemade guacamole. This recipe is so easy to make. Avocado, onion, tomatoes, jalepeno and lime juice plus salt and pepper.
Hey baby, taco walk on the wild side. For the mains, we served swordfish tacos with pineapple guacamole. The pineapple adds a touch of sweetness to the guacamole. No need to make a second batch of guac. Just chop up some fresh pineapple and mix with some of the guacamole made for the chips. We were inspired by the amazing guacamole with pineapple pico de gallo we recently had at Rosa Mexicano.
Whisk me away. For dessert, we made mini Tres Leches with Whipped Cream and Dulce de Leche.
Day of the Dead Party Ideas: What To Wear?
We wore black dresses and spiked floral crowns from Dora Marra. We also applied the traditional Day of the Dead makeup. It is a lot easier than it looks. If you have a black or dark gray creme shadow crayon and black liner, you’re half way there. We did the sugar skull makeup for the first time last year.
Just watch a few makeup videos on YouTube or IG and be sure to trust the process.
This month, knock ’em dead with your own Day of the Dead party. With these Day of the Dead party ideas, you can host your own party at home.
May the beautiful souls of our loved ones be always filled with joy, and may we be blessed with the opportunity to see them again.
These are fantastic! I love the dancing couple. It’s the perfect finishing piece.
Such clever decorations! We enjoy decorating our table for so many events and these recommendations are perfect.
I always love how colorful your decorations are! These are great ideas for the holiday.
I love this theme so much! Definitely going to try something like this for our 5th wedding anniversary. We never had a wedding party because of COVID, so it’s something we’ve been thinking about doing for a while now! And we could make it Halloween/Day of the dead theme!
Hihi…this is so pretty and scary at the same time! I particularly love the plates. They turned out so beautifully!
I don’t celebrate Halloween nor do I celebrate Day of the Dead but I will say I lived in Mexico for years and it is just my absolute favourite!!!!
Fantastic. I am loving all of the colors. This is a great set up for the holiday/season.
How do you get hold of such unique pieces? this party idea is awesome
