Dia de los Muertos Party: Honoring Loved Ones
Bone to be wild. Dia de los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, is a vibrant Mexican holiday that holds deep significance. Spanning from October 31st to November 2nd, this celebration is all about remembering and honoring our loved ones who have departed. Spirits of children are believed to return on October 31st, followed by adult spirits on the subsequent day. It’s a time for reflection and remembrance, infused with joy and vibrant traditions.

Dia de los Muertos Party Decorations: Creating a Spine-Tingling Atmosphere
Let’s have some skele-fun. Our Dia de los Muertos party was a feast for the eyes, adorned with decorations that brought the spirit of the holiday to life. Calacas figures (skeletons) and calaveras (skulls) took center stage, and we used Instaballoons‘ Dia de los Muertos party balloons to set the stage. Our party table featured a lively table runner adorned with two full skeletons, floral crowns, and a profusion of colorful flowers.

The Grateful Dead. Our served as a captivating centerpiece, boasting vibrant imagery that truly captured the essence of the occasion. Adorned with not one, but two full skeletons, this runner brought the spirit of our Dia de los Muertos party to life with intricate details and lively poses that seemed to dance across its length. Atop these joyful skeletons, intricate floral crowns adorned their bony heads, a symbolic tribute to the celebration’s blend of remembrance and festivity.

Bone china. To enhance the eerie ambiance, we layered atop vibrant yellow melamine plates. As our celebration took place outdoors, we placed silverware atop – a simple yet effective touch. For a centerpiece that wowed, we showcased Flora Springs’ Halloween wine collection, complete with Halloween wine toppers, and accented with striking pink roses.

Dia de los Muertos Party Cocktails: Elevating the Spirits
Raise your spirits to the occasion! Our Dia de los Muertos party kicked off with a nod to tradition by indulging in a classic Mexican cocktail – the Paloma. This delightful libation is a harmonious blend of fresh grapefruit and lime juices, spiced up with a touch of chili syrup and a hint of hibiscus. Mexicue made it incredibly convenient with their pre-made Paloma mocktail mixer, ensuring we had all the flavors we needed at our fingertips.

Creating this specialty cocktail was a breeze; we simply mixed one part tequila with two parts of the Paloma mixer, resulting in a refreshingly tangy and subtly spicy drink. Don’t forget the ice; it’s the finishing touch that elevates the Paloma to perfection, serving as a cool counterpart to the warm and inviting flavors of this Mexican classic.

Dia de los Muertos Party: Cook vs. Catering
Mexicue has a mexcellent catering menu. We visited the Flatiron location a few weeks ago. We love to cook but sometimes you just can’t do everything for a party. If you don’t have time to cook or don’t like to cook, then we recommend ordering off the catering menu from Mexicue. Best of all with catering, there are no dirty cooking dishes to clean up. We started with grilled cornbread and Mexican street corn.

Savoring Dia de los Muertos Flavors: A Feast of Mexican Delights
Ab-skull-lutely delicious. Our Dia de los Muertos party delighted guests with an array of mouthwatering Mexican-inspired dishes, courtesy of Mexicue’s superb catering menu. We started with grilled cornbread and Mexican street corn (elote) and served these appetizers on . The elote featured plump corn cobs smothered in a creamy blend of mayonnaise, cotija cheese, and chili powder. Mexicue’s commitment to authentic Mexican cuisine shone through in every bite, creating a memorable and delicious experience that perfectly complemented the spirit of our Dia de los Muertos party.

I value our friend-chip. We placed an irresistible spread of chips with classics like guacamole, salsa verde, guajillo chili salsa, and a flavorful bean dip in . Each dip offered a unique explosion of flavors, from the creamy richness of guacamole to the zesty kick of salsa verde and the smoky depth of the guajillo chili salsa. These delectable accompaniments elevated the dining experience, adding layers of taste and texture that made every chip dip a moment of pure indulgence.

For those seeking a spicy kick, Mexicue provided four fiery hot sauces that added an exciting dimension to our meal. These sauces, ranging from smoky chipotle to tangy habanero, brought a burst of flavor and heat to our dishes, elevating our dining experience with their spicy personality.

Bone appetite! These appetizers were the perfect way to kick off our Dia de los Muertos party. They offered a tantalizing preview of the Mexican-inspired culinary journey that awaited our guests.

Our main course was a diverse and satisfying feast for all tastes. It featured smoky chicken and crispy fish corn tacos, a delightful fusion of flavors and textures. The creamy poblano mac and cheese provided comfort and warmth, while the chicken enchiladas offered a cheesy and savory delight. Together, these dishes celebrated the essence of Mexican cuisine, creating a memorable dining experience that perfectly complemented our Dia de los Muertos celebration.

I love you a whole enchilota. We couldn’t resist serving classic chicken enchiladas, a cheesy delight that added to the Mexican culinary festivities. These enchiladas featured tender chicken enveloped in soft tortillas, smothered in a flavorful sauce, and topped with a generous layer of melted cheese. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors, celebrating the heartwarming essence of Mexican cuisine and leaving our guests with smiles of contentment.

Brownie points. We concluded our Dia de los Muertos feast on a sweet note and indulged in Mexican brownies and Tres Leches cornbread. The brownies were a delightful fusion of rich, velvety chocolate and a hint of spice, echoing the vibrant flavors of Mexican cuisine. Then there was the Tres Leches cornbread, a unique twist on a classic dessert. This moist and tender cornbread was soaked in a trio of creamy, sweet milks, resulting in a dessert that was both comforting and indulgent. It was the perfect way to end our Dia de los Muertos soirée, leaving everyone with a sweet and satisfying memory of the evening’s culinary delights.

What to Wear to a Dia de los Muertos Party: Stylish Fashion
Just skull-king around. For our Dia de los Muertos party, we embraced the theme with chic and eerie outfits. Black dresses adorned with red or gold spiked floral crowns from Dora Marra were the perfect choice. To complete our look, we applied the traditional Day of the Dead eye makeup. Fear not; it’s simpler than it appears! A black or dark gray creme shadow, along with black liner, were the essential tools for this captivating makeup style. With the help of a few YouTube tutorials and some added jewels for extra glamour, we achieved the perfect look.

Our guests got into the spirit of the holiday by donning eye masks, face masks, jewels, and creative makeup, showcasing their unique interpretations of Dia de los Muertos style.

At a Dia de los Muertos party, there are no boundaries to creativity, so let your imagination run wild and join in the festivities.

This October, be the “ghostest with the mostest” and host your own Dia de los Muertos party, inspired by our collaboration with Flora Springs, Mexicue, Instaballoons and Dora Marra.
