On March 17th, everyone is a little IRISH! We celebrated Spring Break and St. Patrick’s Day in Utah with our family. We were excited to spend the week skiing in Deer Valley, devouring yummy bites and dressing in GREEN.
St. Patrick’s Day is cultural and religious celebration held annually on March 17th. This day honors the life and service of the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick was a missionary, who brought Christianity to Ireland. He used shamrocks to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish.
In honor of St. Paddy’s Day, we made shamrock chocolates. Homemade chocolates are incredibly easy to make with children. You can typically find pre-colored chocolate. The process is simple: melt, pour and freeze chocolate. REPEAT. You can purchase shamrock molds from Amazon.
Deer Valley holds a special place in our family. Our older sister, Shruthi and brother-in-law, Brian were married at the Stein Erikson. They are avid skiers today, while the twins haven’t skied since the wedding 7 years ago! We were excited to give skiing another go.

Deer Valley, a skiers only mountain in Park City, is a quick 45 minutes away from the Salt Lake City airport. Deer Valley accumulates 300 inches of powder snow annually. Skiers can challenge themselves on the very runs skied by Olympians during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games or take a ski lesson to learn the fundamentals of skiing. Note that Deer Valley is one of three remaining American ski resorts that prohibit snowboarders (the others are Alta and Mad River Glen).
We attended 3 days of ski school and advanced from the bunny hill to greens to blues during our trip. Dylan is on his third season of skiing and skies blacks while his mother skies Olympic runs and double blacks with ease. On our last day, we all took three-year old Keira on the mountain. She may even ski blues better than her aunties.

Our singer/song writer friend, Mark Radcliffe, performed a private concert at our condo. He opened with a beautiful rendition of Radiohead’s High and Dry. He also learned Let It Go from Frozen and gave Keira a mini guitar lesson. Dylan had a blast goofing around with his big brother, Will.

On our last night, we enjoyed a fabulous meal at Riverhorse on Main. We were told to request Jeff Hupe as our waiter and he didn’t disappoint! The food and service was perfect. We highly recommend this restaurant and if you go there, ask for Hupe!

Thanks again to Shruthi and Brian for planning a wonderful spring break. We even celebrated July 4th last summer in Park City. We now know why so many locals say they came to Deer Valley for the winter, but then stayed for the summer!

This looks like such an amazing trip and some great family time! We love to ski, but have never been to Deer Valley! Definitely going to have to add this to the list of places to visit!
Utah is beautiful, and it looks like you are having a great time. It's such a lovely state to spend time in.
This looks like a really beautiful place. I might have to make a trip to this place for a holiday soon.
Is that your twin sister?? How lucky you are! We don't celebrate St Patrick Day here but I really glad to learn more about how you guys spend in other part of the world. Why is green color has to do with St Patrick Day?
300 inches – OMG!! That makes for good skiing! Loved going on your trip with you and seeing this year as fun and vibrant as last ??
It looks like you had a lovely time all together. 300 inches of snow is incredible, wow!
Oh how fun…it looks like you had a blast. This is definitely a place worth visiting.
Aww so cute! For some reason I never thought to connect Utah and snow…but it definitely has snow! Haha
This looks like a fun family getaway. I've never tried skiing because my balance isn't very good! haha
It looks like a great spring break! I want to go somewhere but I don’t think it is going to happen. We are going to have to do something this summer for sure though.
That's a very good and fun family adventure. Guess everyone enjoyed your trip. I will definitely plan this kind of trip too.
