(Festival of) Lights, Camera, Action! The Pierre and their signature restaurant, Perrine, host one of the brightest Diwali parties in NYC. This holiday takes place in October or November depending on the lunar calendar. This year, Diwali officially fell on October 27th. We attended The Pierre’s Diwali celebration for the past two years (2018 and 2017). Grab your diya lamps and firecrackers because we are about to take you through a colorful Diwali celebration.
Perrine’s terrace radiated the festival of lights with beautiful lanterns, diya lamps and twinkling lights. DJ Suhel spun Bollywood beats while guests dined on Indian bites prepared by Executive Chef Ashfer Biju and sipped on Miraval rosé and Glenlevit cocktails.
As guests entered the terrace, they received a traditional greeting with pasupu tikkas (tumeric) and snapped photos at the photobooth. Guests also received colorful diya lamp favors. The weather was perfect for a fall outdoor celebration.
Guests wore vibrant traditional Indian fashions to celebrate Diwali. Ladies wore a mix of saris, lehengas, salwar kameez, gowns and anarkalis.
Gentlemen rocked kurta pajamas, sherwanis, vests, suits, turbans and mojari (traditional Indian shoes).
The Diwali celebration included a traditional Puja, which is a prayer ritual in Hinduism, Buddism, Jainism and Sikhism.
The puja was performed around the rangoli and rastogi. A rangoli is a colorful, pattern made on a flat surface with colored rice, sand or flowers. A rastogi is a large brass diya lamp. Diya lamps and lanterns were scattered around the edges of the rangoli.
Guests and staff lit the diya lamps.
Chef Ashfer created a delicious Diwali menu that combined traditional and contemporary bites.
We also sampled many mithai (or sweets) at the end of the evening. The desserts were presented beautifully on the Mithai Wall.
The signature wine was Château Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé.
Other signature drinks were Glenlivet and Chivas Regal Scotch Whiskey.
There was also 1947 Premium Lager Beer.
We enjoyed wine and cocktails with our girlfriends.
A Diwali party isn’t complete without lots of Bollywood music and bhangra dancing. DJ Suhel once again brought Bollywood to The Pierre.
Guests danced the night away in their vibrant Indian attire.
Chef Ashfer and his team’s food was delicious. We highly recommend a visit to Perrine for dinner. We had our birthday dinner last year in the Rotunda.
Thank you to The Pierre, Perrine, Ashfer and Melissa for including us in the festivities.
Of course, we ended the night sipping wine in the beautiful Rotunda. Make sure to check out some of The Pierre’s and Diwali next year.

May the light dispel all darkness enlighten your soul, illuminate your path and bless you in every ray, every way, every day.
