Here’s to the red, white and blue (crafts). Memorial Day is right around the corner and we used our Cricut Maker to make a patriotic banner. We framed it above our homemade mixed berry crumble. The more time we spend at home, the more time we spend with our Cricut products. So let’s get crafty and make some Memorial Day decorations.
We have been using Cricut machines to create one-of-a-kind decorations for the past six months. This week, we added the Cricut Maker to our arsenal. We are excited to use it for the first time and share our tips with you. The Cricut Maker is a machine that cuts, writes and scores 300+ materials that range from delicate fabrics and paper to matboard and leather. It connects to laptops and mobile devices through bluetooth technology.
For this project you’ll need:
- Cardstock, White
- Vinyl, Red and Blue
- StandardGrip and LightGrip Machine Mats
- Transfer Tape
- Cricut Tools (Weeder, Scraper)
- Twine
We used Cricut Design Space to make a Stars and Stripes Banner for Memorial Day. We used the American Flag Banner image (just FYI each triangle is only 3″, so you may need to resize it). We decorated a small space, so the default image size worked for us.
Cricut Design Space works seamlessly from desktop to mobile. You can also create this banner with the Cricut Explore Air 2.
Next we placed the White Cardstock on the Mat and then let the Cricut Maker do it’s magic and start cutting. Afterwards we used the Cricut Tools to lift the cardstock off the Mat.
Next we placed the Red Vinyl on the Mat and let the Maker cut. Then we started weeding. Remember to remove the excess vinyl (and not the other way around).
Then repeat with the Blue Vinyl.
Now it’s time to grab the Transfer Tape and start layering.
Place the Transfer Tape over the Red Vinyl first and then add the Blue Vinyl. Then place both layers on top of the White Cardstock. Make sure to carefully align the stars and stripes.
Then string the banner and hang it up.
This spring, head over to Cricut and get your own Cricut Maker. It’s also available in-store at Michaels, Walmart and Target. If you have a Cricut already, procraftinate with us and make this Star Spangled banner for Memorial Day.
Here in America we’re doing the most wonderful crafts.
