Turning 70 is cause for a fabulous Twinspirational soirée! Last month, our father hit this milestone birthday and we celebrated in style with an over the top Bollywood Disco. We paired the glitz and glam of the 1970s with bright, bold colors and retro Bollywood beats. We are excited to share our Bollywood Disco party with you.
Bollywood is India’s version of Hollywood. The disco revolution was not exclusive to the West. It had a major impact on India and Bollywood. Back in the 1970s, Bollywood films featured typical 1970s attire and Bollywood’s leading ladies wore trend-setting fashions. We incorporated elements of Bollywood Disco into every aspect of the party, starting with the invitation. We created our beautiful Indian inspired invitation on Paperless Post.
Since it was a disco party, we combined the silver metallics of the disco balls with the vibrant colors of Bollywood. We selected a color palette of shiny silver, bright orange and bold turquoise to bring the Bollywood magic to New Jersey.
We decorated the tables with chic gray tablecloths, turquoise napkins and white votives. International Garden created stunning floral arrangements featuring snow white orchids, carrot birds of paradise, tiger roses, melon daisies, ivory calla lilies and apricot mums. We placed the floral arrangements inside disco ball vases by Prissyem. We used turquoise and orange bokeh prints to create place cards and table names. We named the tables after popular 1970s Bollywood films. For favors, Sugar Rush Bakery custom created disco ball cake pops.
The room was magical inside the tent.
We originally planned for the cocktail hour to be outside, but unexpected weather changes forced us to move the cocktail tables into the foyer. We recommend being nimble with outdoor parties as the weather can be unpredictable.
We set up a chic welcome table with a beautiful disco ball arrangement and a custom guest sign in book that captured our dad’s highlights from the past 7 decades.
Guests loved flipping through the book almost as much as we loved designing the book.
We placed the table names on orange bokeh table cards along with another stunning bouquet.
Guests were asked to dress in 1970s Bollywood attire. The ladies wore florals and polka dots while the gentlemen sported plaids, bell bottoms, vests and newsboy hats. Our mom wore her engagement sari from the 1970s. Ladies also wore flowers in their hair and a generous dose of winged eyeliner.
We love a well styled bar. We decorated the bar with a Drink Menu and small disco bouquet of flowers.
Guests sipped on exotic cocktails, scotch, wine and beer during cocktail hour.
The signature cocktails were just as colorful as our entire party.
We believe every party needs a fabulous photobooth. We were inspired by Oh Happy Day’s Disco backdrop and we layered in bold Bollywood colors. We started with a metallic silver fringe curtain from Decorative Novelty and added Silver Bollywood Disco balloons from Instaballoons. We hung bright orange and turquoise paper fans from Devra Party. Next we added lots of disco balls (1 – 20″, 4 – 12″, 4 – 8″ and 24 – 2″). Lastly, we added large 70 silver balloons.
Guests loved the backdrop just as much as we did!
Our family flew in from all over the country to celebrate this milestone birthday.
Ravi Nimma of Bhog created a delicious Bollywood feast that was diverse and abundant in flavor.
The appetizers were almost too pretty to eat. We loved the display, especially the ferris wheel bites.
We served the mains in chaffing dishes.
Each dish had the perfect amount of flavor and spice! We definitely went back for seconds.
We rounded out the meal with a selection of delectable Indian desserts and a Bollywood Disco cake from Mother Mousse.
We love mini desserts so that guests can try them all. All of these sweet dishes were almost too pretty to eat.
We gave a speech and highlighted some of our dad’s greatest achievements, along with our older sister, brother-in-law and uncle.
The guests laughed just as much as our dad during the speeches.
Dylan helped his grandfather blow out the candle celebrating seven decades of amazing moments.Dad, thanks again for letting us add lots of Twinspiration to ring in the big 70.
