Have you ever wondered how your smile changes after a glass of wine? We loved Brazilian photographer, Marcos Alberti’s, Three Glasses Wine Project. Last month, we hosted a Twinspirational version. We partnered with Red Car Wine and Live Love Pop for a popcorn and wine pairing. When guests arrived, we snapped their first photo. Then we kept snapping after each glass of wine and box of popcorn. We are excited to show you the results.
Red Car Wine is a West Sonoma Coast vineyard that produces varietals of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Rosé, Roussanne and Syrah. The winery was founded by Carroll Kemp, Mark Estrin and Richard Crowell and their first vintage came to market in 2000. The winery’s name pays homage to the red trolley cars that serviced Los Angeles during the 1900s. For our wine tasting, we selected the Chardonnay, Rosé and Pinot Noir.
We decanted the Pinot Noir in a decanter by Mixolost World. Not every wine needs to be decanted.Decanting aerates the wine, which helps open up the aroma and flavor. Full bodied and tannic wines benefit the most from decanting, but we’ve also decanted Pinot Noir. Some decanters separate wine from sediment, and ensure that you get a nice clear wine in your glass.
Live Love Pop is a healthy popcorn, available in a variety of flavors. This snack is low-calorie, gluten-free, preservative-free, whole grain and delicious popcorn. Founder, Lauren Brundage Mariel, created the company in honor of her mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. The company not only makes wholesome popcorn, but also gives back to charity. Each flavor donates a portion of profits to a different charity. We received all six flavors, and researched which flavors paired best with the Red Car wines. We selected the Salt & Vinegar, Cheddar & Sour Cream and Truffle Salt.
We set the table with a beige tablecloth. Each place setting had three wine glasses from Poolside Creations as well as three popcorn boxes. We also placed bouquets of red carnations and white hydrangea as centerpieces. Unopened bottles of Redcar served as additional decor. We also placed a red toy car on the table.
We also set up a cheese and dessert platter filled with goat cheese, gouda, baguette, pastries and cookies. We displayed these bites on a wooden cutting board with cheese knives. Guests enjoyed the bites during the wine tasting.
The Salt & Vinegar popcorn paired perfectly with the Chardonnay. This wine is tart with aromas of lime, apricot and white flowers. The Cheddar & Sour Cream popcorn has a strong flavor profile of its own, while the crisp, tangy Rosé has notes of strawberry, watermelon and white flowers. They are great individually, but our least favorite pairing. The Truffle Salt was our favorite popcorn – who doesn’t love truffle flavored anything? It paired well with the the Pinot Noir, which is rich and balanced and has notes of cherries.
Now for the fun part! The smiles!
