Happy 2021! Spoiler Alert: we are still social distancing and the kids are still home more than usual. We partnered with Chasing Fireflies to show you how to entertain the kids this winter. Here are the best Chasing Fireflies costumes for the winter, along with activities to do at home.
What is Chasing Fireflies?
Chasing Fireflies is a creative children’s boutique that specializes in clothing and costumes for everyday, holiday and special occasions. We have been huge fans of Chasing Fireflies for years. Their high quality costumes are perfect for Halloween, birthday parties and dress up. Keira wore a Princess Anna gown for her third Frozen birthday. Both kids dressed up as Star Wars characters for Dylan’s 9th birthday earlier this year. Dylan and Keira transformed into Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf for Halloween last year.
Crafting with Star Wars Costumes
“The force is strong with this one.” Dylan and Keira are avid Star Wars fans. They saw every Star Wars movie and are currently watching The Mandalorian. Dylan dressed up as Kylo Ren and Keira dressed up as a Stroomtrooper. The Kylo Ren costume includes a black tunic, belt, mask, hooded cape, pants and gloves. The Stroomtrooper costume includes a white jumpsuit with molded armor and black embellishments, a shoulder guard, belt, gloves and a helmet. Our Kylo Ren and Stroomtrooper made themselves custom Star Wars glasses with Cricut Joy.
Next it was time for Dylan and Keira’s mocktails. They love sparkling water with a splash of apple juice.
Cheers, “may the force be with you.”
Watching a Movie with Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf Costumes
Family movie night becomes even more fun by dressing up as the characters. We watched Hoodwinked and Keira dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood, while Dylan dressed up as the big, bad Wolf. The Little Red Riding Hood costume includes a velvet dress, cape, bow, and lace gloves. The Wolf costumes includes a mask, flannel shirt, pants with fur and faux fur gloves.
The kids loved watching a movie while dressed up as the characters. Just make sure to have a bowl of popcorn for the kiddos.
Making Sushi in Ninja Costumes
Dylan and Keira enjoy cooking and one of their new favorite foods is California rolls. They made sushi while dressing up as Ninjas. It was soy awesome.
Keira’s Red Ninja costume includes a red and black tunic with a dragon, red and black pants, red belt, red headband and black and red cuffs. Dylan’s Silver Ninja costume includes a black hood with mask, shirt with armour, pants, belt with armour and shin guards.
Just roll with it. We made sushi rice and then added rice vinegar and white wine vinegar. Then we placed a piece of Nori on our bamboo mat. Dylan and Keira added the sushi rice, sesame seeds, crab sticks, thin slices of cucumber and avocado. Then they rolled the sushi and we sliced it with a sharp knife.
We also served dumplings, edamame and spring rolls. However the kids were most excited to eat their homemade sushi.

I love costumes. I love getting dressed up because it really helps my imagination make the leap to believe that I am who I say I am.Alessandro Nivola
