Cheers! Let’s raise a glass, give thanks and toast to the holidays! Our November was filled with multiple holiday celebrations, beginning with two Friendsgivings and concluding with a traditional Thanksgiving celebration with our family. Our sister, Shruthi, and brother-in-law, Brian, host Thanksgiving every year. This year, we partnered with Sojourn Cellars and One Wooded Lane for one stunning celebration. We are excited to give thanks and give you tips on how to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Sojourn Cellars was founded by Craig and Ellen Haserot with winemaker Erich Bradley in 2001. This highly acclaimed winery specializes in the production of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The winery sources grapes from celebrated vineyards in Sonoma and Napa, and produces remarkable wines that showcase the character and personality of the individual vineyards.

We worked with Sherrie Perkovich of Sojourn to select our Thanksgiving wines. We decided on:
- 2016 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
- 2016 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
- 2016 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Our brother-in-law, Brian, is an unbelievable chef. Every Thanksgiving his turkey, stuffing, veggies and cranberry sauce taste better and better. This year’s turkey was 11 pounds! The selection of sides included: mashed and sweet potatoes, stuffing, brussels sprouts, roasted carrots and cranberry sauce.
Our table decorations were infused with color-Fall elements of golden yellow, burnt orange and vibrant greens. We decorated our tablescape with Williams Sonoma’s botanical pumpkin and gourd tablecloths and napkins, Crate and Barrel’s wooden napkin rings and One Wooded Lane‘s Pumpkin place cards. International Garden created our gorgeous floral arrangements with auburn calla lilies, golden ranunculus, caramel chrysanthemums and white baby’s breath. We decorated the wine with adorable pumpkin and turkey toppers from Pottery Barn. Since it is the season to give thanks, we also added One Wooded Lane’s whimsical Give Thanks blocks to the tablescape.

Dylan and Keira loved their personalized place cards from One Wooded Lane. We used a mix of fonts and the company also has beautiful Christmas place cards.
We sipped on the Chardonnay while dinner was being prepped.
This rich wine was sourced from three Sonoma vineyards: Sangiacomo, Durell and Gap’s Crown. We tasted notes of stone fruit and yellow apple.

We served dinner with two varietals of Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is our favorite red wine and we focused on tasting the differences between the two wines. Some family members preferred the Sonoma Coast, while others raved about the Russian River Valley. The Sonoma Coast Pinot is made from eight unique lots, but the key vineyards are Sangiacomo, Rodgers Creek, Gap’s Crown and Dorothy Cameron. This wine is well balanced and features layers of dark cherry, nutmeg and earth. The Russian River Valley Pinot is a blend of five vineyards and has bright acidity, fresh fruit flavors, earthy notes and silky tannins.

For dessert, we served a Give Thanks carrot cake with vanilla ice cream and homemade whipped cream.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and gobble gobble gobble to the start of holiday season! If you missed our fabulous Friendsgiving, you can find it here.
Life is but a Sojourn. Enjoy the best of it. ––Plato
