Just because you aren’t a celebrity, doesn’t mean you can’t party like one. We brought Hollywood’s biggest night to NYC with an unforgettable Academy Awards celebration. We partnered with Lorimar Winery and created an Oscars-worthy menu for our Twinspirational guests. We are excited to share the glitz and glamour of our Oscars viewing party with you.
The 91st Academy Awards aired on February 24th, 2019. The show is over 3 hours and that doesn’t even include the red carpet! It’s best to have your guests arrive at least 30 minutes before the Oscars start so that they can take a walk on the red carpet and be photographed by the “paparazzi.” We asked our guests to “dress to impress.” Anything goes as long as you work it with style. We also gave our guests lots of photobooth props to select from.
We recommend setting up a few days early so that you can enjoy the night with your guests. Gold, glitter and sparkles transform an ordinary room into a Hollywood movie set. Our Oscar color palette featured shimmery golds, jet blacks and fire engine reds. We framed our award winning tablescape with a gold fringe curtain and black, white and gold pom poms. We dressed the dining table with a metallic black tablecloth.
We placed a bouquet of red roses, white dendrobium orchids and crimson berries in the center of the table. We added a clapboard and film reel. We scattered lots of golden statues on the table. We chilled the white wine and rose in a Beatriz Ball stainless steel ice bucket. We placed chocolate Oscars favors in a lollipop stand.
Stylish food is always an award winner. Finger foods and elevated snacks gave our event an air of sophistication. A dressed-up bowl of popcorn is an excellent way to pay homage to a classic movie night snack. We placed our popcorn in red bowls from Q-Squared. In the past we have also used popcorn boxes.
Our star appetizer was a “Cheese is Born.” Cheese boards are an easy way to create themed appetizers. We selected a Brie for the center, and cubed a variety of pepper jack, cheddar, Havarti with dill, Italian truffle for the star arms. Then we filled in the spaces with french bread, crackers and blackberries. The key to a stylish cheese plate is incorporating a variety of color, texture and flavor profiles.
Our Oscars bar featured wines from Lorimar Vineyards. This Tuscan style winery is located in Temecula Valley, also known as Southern California’s Wine Country. Brothers-in-law Lawrie Lipton and Mark Manfield opened the winery in 2012. The name Lorimar was created by combining Lawrie and Mark’s first names. The winery features a picturesque setting to enjoy live music, local artwork, gourmet food, and award-winning wine.
Sparkling wine and the Oscars are a timeless pairing. We started the night with a few bottles of Lorimar’s Grenache Sparkling Rosé. We recommend pre-pouring wine so that it’s ready for guests as they arrive. We served the wine on Beatriz Ball’s sterling silver tray.
Next we sipped on a White Vineyard Blend of Grenache, Viognier & Riesling. This wine had notes of fragrant tangerines, ripe grapefruit and peach blossom with a vibrant gratifying finish.
Our second white was the Chardonnay, which is aged in oak barrels and made with fruit sourced from Monterey. This wine has notes of honeydew melon, pears and apple blossom.
Our first red was the Sangiovese, which has notes of ripe red cherry, mulberry and dried roses. It paired nicely with our main courses.
Our final wine was Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre Blend. This complex wine has perfumes of ripe bing cherries, peony and sandalwood mixed with pink peppercorn.
We completed the bar with the Favourange cocktail, an orange martini. You can make them in a pitcher as well and pour into martini glasses.
The Favourange
Ingredients
- 2 oz Vodka
- 1 oz Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
- 3/4 oz Simple Syrup
- 1/2 oz Aperol
- 1/2 oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a martini shaker with ice and pour into martini glasses
We created an Academy Award winning menu for our celebrity guests. If you don’t have time to cook every meal from scratch, take a page out of our playbook. We ordered catering from Giorgios of Gramercy and selected the salads, pastas and mains that best fit the movies that were nominated for Best Picture.
It’s actually a lot easier than it looks! Kitch Annette creates a menu every year, and we use her ideas as a sounding board for our own.
A fancy night deserves some fancy sweet treats. We served Black Panther Brownies and Bohemian Raspberry Macarons. The play on Bohemian Rhapsody was our favorite food pun of the night.
The Oscars are a multi-hour affair and playing some games will keep you and your guests paying attention to the awards and speeches. We asked our guests to vote for their favorites on an Oscars Ballot. We also printed an Oscars Bingo. Congrats to Marina for being our Oscars Bingo winner. We also had coordinating Oscar Night Welcome Signs.
We wanted to send our guests off with some Oscars swag, just like the Osar nominees. Archana made yellow, red and chocolate Oscar statues. These party favors are equal part festive and delicious. They were a way to bid our guests farewell in style.
Special thanks to Lorimar and all of celebrity guests for joining us our on Oscars night.
