Tequila Mockingbird! We can’t believe that we are in month 5 of living in Montclair! In order to see our friends and support our local restaurants, we drive into our beloved NYC. Flatiron is known for its iconic namesake building. The area is also known for its fabulous restaurants, bars, food trucks and Madison Square Park. This week, we are excited to share our outdoor dining experience at MEXiCUE with you.
Restaurant Tech, Social Distancing and Outdoor Dining
COVID-19 changed the restaurant dining experience. Restaurants closed indoor dining and overhauled outdoor dining with social distancing requirements, mandatory masks and new restaurant technology. Outdoor tables are spaced out at least 6 feet. Staff and diners wear masks (when not eating or drinking). MEXiCUE’s tables have QR codes, which link to MEXiCUE’s digital menu.

MEXiCUE’s Brunch Menu
The food at MEXiCUE combines Mexican flavors with Southern classics and cooking techniques. MEXiCUE’s mouthwatering dishes are smoked, grilled, braised, charred, pickled, juiced or mashed. MEXiCUE serves weekend brunch specials from 11am to 3pm with $7 cocktails and wine specials.

Aperitif
We began our meal with the seasonal fruit mimosa. We loved the refreshing pink watermelon mimosa with mint.

The mimosa paired nicely with the Charred Jalapeño Guacamole. The sweetness of the watermelon balanced the heat from the spicy guacamole.

Our cocktails and guac were Mexcellent. This was the perfect way to begin our delicious meal at MEXiCUE.

Brunch Mains
For our mains, we shared savory and sweet dishes. We ordered the Cornbread French Toast, the Huevos Rancheros with Shrimp and the Breakfast Tacos. Our favorite dish was the Huevos Rancheros. We enjoyed the combination of scrambled eggs, black beans, jack cheese, corn tortillas and salsa. The French Toast was a unique blend of savory cornbread and french toast. We loved addition of cinnamon butter and fresh mint. The breakfast tacos combined scrambled eggs, crispy tortilla strips and jack cheese.

Brunch Cocktails
Our waiter brought us a round of drinks that paired with our brunch dishes:
- Montauk Margarita – tequila blanco, lemon juice, coconut, lime, salt
- Spicy Margarita – house fireball tequila, jalapeno, chili simple syrup, lime juice, habanero bitters
- Smoky Margarita – tequila blanco, mezcal, mole bitters, chili simple syrup, lime juice, chili lime salt

Let’s not taco about how different NYC feels this year. Rather, we should focus on how we can all support small businesses and local restaurants. This Summer or Fall, dine outdoors at MEXiCUE in NYC for brunch, lunch, happy hour or dinner. We highly recommend it. Alternatively, you can order take out and style your own TACO TUESDAY.

A balanced diet is a taco in each hand!
Ooh this place looks amazing, all my fav foods and drinks. Looks like a fun, socially distant place to check out.
I actually like some of the developments due to the Corona virus – like the fact that you have more privacy because there is more space between the tables 🙂
I guess we have a stricter policy here with social distancing. Yours is a bit more relaxed and enjoyable.
Over here lockdown is still there and social distance is necessary and it is a good thing. I really liked this mexique restaurant review, you had a good time indeed!
Looks like a fun time. I love mexican brunches.
All of that looks amazing, but that guac!!!! I want some of that right now. I may have to see if I can find a similar recipe online since I don’t live close to NYC.
First, I LOVE the no contact menu! Second, all the food and those mimosas look INCREDIBLE.
I love brunch but making it Mexican is special. Patio dining is best right now!
