This week, we celebrated the Brexit of 1776. We ventured outside of Manhattan and explored Coney Island and Long Island City. We are excited to share our Fourth of July festivities with you!
Our weekend celebrations started with an adventure in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Coney Island is known for its beach and amusement park. Both are easily accessible via the subway.
In honor of America’s birthday, we dressed in red, white and blue. Our day started with a picnic on the beach. Even our picnic snacks celebrated Independence Day. Archana prepared red, white and blue berry tea sandwiches with walnuts, brie and blue agave. Archana took inspiration from Fresh Direct and created an adorable dessert flag with blueberries, cherries, strawberries and yogurt covered pretzels. If we had to recreate this flag for another summer picnic, we would replace the yogurt covered pretzels with cashews or macadamia nuts so they survive the warm temperatures better. We concluded the day with some signature rides in the Coney Island Amusement Park: Thunderbolt Roller Coaster, Ferris Wheel and Bumper Cars.
For the Fourth, we attended a fabulous party hosted by our friends Tendayi and Annibel in Long Island City. Gantry Plaza State Park was packed with visitors that wanted the perfect view of the Macy’s Fireworks along the East River and the NYC skyline.
Archana made red, white and blue chocolate covered pretzels. They are super easy to make. Just dip pretzel rods in white chocolate and then make stripes with red and blue chocolate in piping bags (or ziplock bags).
The view of the fireworks was AMAZING from Long Island City.
Tendayi and Annibel, thanks for hosting a fabulous July 4th party. We had a wonderful time.
“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” – Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the United States
