What is BrunchCritic?
BrunchCritic is our go to resource for all things BRUNCH in NYC. Brunchies can search the website for brunch recommendations based on neighborhood and various other criteria (i.e. boozy brunch, good for groups, kid-friendly, gluten-free, etc). Our first BrunchCritic event was last year’s spectacular Orange Gala.

Large group dining can be tricky in the city with limited options, expensive mandatory prefix menus or large minimum spending requirements. Andrea secured her guests the exclusive private wine cellar at Black Barn for a party of 20 at a reasonable price!

Best New Year’s Day Brunch in NYC: The Food
Everything was DELICIOUS! The crowd favorites at the best New Year’s Day brunch in NYC were: avocado toast, chicken and waffles and the bread pudding. We love avocado toast- it’s loaded with healthy fats that keep you full all day long. The charcuterie platter looked beautiful and consisted of a variety of cheese with different flavor profiles and textures. The danishes were buttery and flakey and had the perfect amount of filling, while the fruit platter was loaded with seasonal berries and melons.
We are big waffle fans and chicken fans, but never had them together until today. It was the perfect bite of savory and sweet, especially when drizzled with a touch of maple syrup and melted butter. The acorn and kale salad was delicous- we thought it was a touch overdressed, but the rest of the table didn’t mind the extra dressing. The roasted turkey sandwich was delicious (we decided to eat sans bacon since we don’t eat bacon and plus it saves on some calories).
The apple cider donuts were light and moist and we loved the caramel dipping sauce. The bread pudding was a more decadent dessert, and we only needed a few large bites to feel satisfied. Our least favorite was the pumpkin cheesecake, which tasted more like a pumpkin mousse versus a traditional cheesecake.
Thanks to Andrea, BrunchCritic and Black Barn for the best New Year’s Day Brunch in NYC. Cheers to an amazing 2017!
