This is just the veganning. Vegan and Indian food is not a common combination, but we recently discovered the best vegan Indian food at Bombay Sandwich Co in Nomad. This fast casual sandwich spot serves some serious flavor with Indian-inspired sandwiches, salads and bowls. If you are plant-based or just looking for a Meatless Monday option, check out Bombay Sandwich Co.
Best Vegan Indian Food in NYC: Bombay Sandwich Co
Living on the veg. Bombay Sandwich Co is located in Nomad on 27th Street between Broadway and 6th Ave. The restaurant is open from 11AM to 8PM on Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays. Bombay Sandwich Co serves Indian-inspired plant based dishes. It is primarily vegan and has a few vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Bombay Sandwich Co: Masala Chai
Okay, but first chai! We started our meal with Masala Chai, a lightly sweetened tea with a blend of spices. If you are a coffee person, then try the Cardamom Coffee. They also serve cold drinks such as Vegan Mango Lassi, Mango Lemonade, Iced Chai, Iced Cardamom Coffee, and Ganga Jamuna.
Bombay Sandwich Co: The Sandwiches
Cheese the day. Do you like grilled cheese? How about samosas? What if you could combine the two together? That’s exactly was the Aloo Grilled Cheese is. This sandwich is filled with samosa stuffing, melted muenster and sharp white cheddar and organic sourdough. This gooey flavorful grilled cheese is vegetarian, not vegan. Hands down, this is our favorite.
Paneer or far. Next we tried the Paneer Tikka Burger with house-made cottage cheese, tikka spice, red onion, tomato, cilantro aioli and romaine. If you like cottage cheese with an Indian twist, this burger is for you!
Bready or not. Our last sandwich was the Bombay Club Sandwich. If you like sourdough, this is the sandwich for you. It has three pieces of bread, a chickpea pancake, spiced potato, fresh vegetables, cilantro chutney and chili aioli.
Bombay Sandwich Co: The Bowls
Spice, spice baby. Our first bowl was the Chana Masala bowl with spinach rice and hot sauce, kale pesto sauce and apple garlic pickle. This dish screams India with a modern twist. Just look at all of the gorgeous colors and flavors. The bowls are lighter than the sandwiches, and a good alternative to a more traditional salad.
Bombay Sandwich Co: The Salads
Kale yeah. The Kale and Hearty Salad was the last dish we tried and the most healthy. This salad has kale, avocado, shredded cabbage, carrots, beets, sunflower seeds and cumin dressing. This is another good alternative to a more traditional salad. The beets give the salad a gorgeous magenta color and healthy fats from the avocado.
Naan can compare to you. This year, stop by Bombay Sandwich Co, the best vegan Indian food, for lunch or an early dinner. The food, ambiance and service is fantastic. There’s also a plaza right next door where you can enjoy an outdoor lunch. They also have a catering menu. Trust us, even if you are a big meat eater, you’ll still enjoy dining here.
