NYC Best Brunch Spots: La Barca Cantina
Brunch me with your best shot. La Barca Cantina opened in May 2020 at Pier 81 and continues to be NYC’s only floating Mexican restaurant. This taco boat is operated by New York Cruise Lines, which also operates Circle Line Cruises, North River Lobster Company (we’ve done the Lobster BoaT before, and it’s also a fun group activity), the Beast and New York Water Taxi. La Barca Cantina sails short cruises throughout the week with a boozy Sunday brunch option. This restaurant tops the list for NYC best brunch spots.
First Sail of the Season: Easter Brunch
Love you a brunch. La Barca Cantina kicked off the season in style with an unforgettable Easter Brunch that set sail amidst the excitement of the holiday. This family friendly brunch sets sail every Sunday from 12:30PM to 2:30PM. We brought our parents with us, and they had a fabulous time. Make sure to arrive early because the boat departs the Pier on time.

Let’s live hoppily ever after. To add an extra touch of festive charm, the staff adorned themselves with adorable Easter bunny ears, enhancing the already delightful atmosphere of La Barca Cantina. Just don’t expect to see any bunnies after Easter.

Sip happy thoughts. We sipped on endless Mango Bellinis while enjoying the lively atmosphere of La Barca Cantina’s Taco Boat. Their bottomless brunch drinks will ensure that your glass is never empty as you savor each flavorful bite of your Mexican brunch. It still counts as one glass if the glass is refilled before you finish the glass, right? Other drink options include: Mimosas, Coffee, Café de Olla, Tea, Soft Drinks and Fruit Juices. Being a dad is whisky business. Our father enjoyed sipping the Morir Soñado. This cocktail featured Abasol Mexican Corn Whisky, orange and milk with hints of lime and vanilla.

NYC Best Brunch Spots: La Barca Cantina’s Mexican Brunch Buffet
You guac my world. La Barca Cantina’s boozy Sunday brunch features a Mexican brunch buffet that transported us to the vibrant streets of Mexico City. Our taco boat adventure began with a time-honored classic: chips and guac. But this was no ordinary appetizer – each crispy chip and creamy scoop of guacamole was a symphony of bold colors and flavors, setting the stage for an unbelievable Easter brunch.

Netflix and Chilaquiles. From traditional Chilaquiles and Scrambled Eggs to Mexican French Toast, each dish is crafted with authentic flavors and fresh ingredients that left us craving more. The Chilaquiles Roja was quite delicious. With its bold flavors and satisfying crunch, it was a symphony of texture and taste that left us utterly satisfied and yet yearning for just one more bite at NYC best brunch spots.

Toastest with the mostess. It was the Mexican French Toast also known as “Torrejas” that truly stole our hearts. Picture this: thick slices of golden bread, perfectly soaked in a decadent mixture of eggs, cinnamon, and just a hint of vanilla. Cooked to golden perfection and topped with a generous drizzle of rich maple syrup, butter and strawberry slices. It was the perfect balance of sweetness and richness at NYC best brunch spots.

Jalepeno business. We placed the scrambled eggs on a tortilla and topped them with pickled onions, hot sauce and Jalapeño as well as a side of guacamole. Each bite was a harmonious blend of savory, tangy, and spicy flavors.

Taco about a party. We also unleashed our creativity with make-your-own tacos. With options like Steak, Braised Chicken in Salsa Verde, and Mexican Roasted Mahi Mahi – we opted for the chicken, which was delicious. With a variety of fresh ingredients including vibrant salsas and creamy guacamole, we customized our tacos to perfection. This hands-on experience allows you to tailor each bite to your liking, ensuring a truly personalized brunch experience that will satisfy your cravings.

Don’t go bacon my heart. Other sides and accompaniments include: crispy bacon and savory sausage, roasted potatoes, golden and crisp, beckoned with their hearty flavor. Fragrant yellow rice and velvety black beans added a touch of Latin flair to our feast. And who could resist the temptation of sweet plantains, their caramelized perfection offering a delightful contrast to the savory delights? With each side dish carefully curated to complement the main event, our brunch experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Make sure to add La Barca Cantina to your list of NYC best brunch spots.
NYC Best Brunch Spots: La Barca Cantina’s Mexican Brunch Desserts
Triple the sweetness, triple the fun. The Tres Leches Cake was a dose of creamy, dreamy goodness. Each forkful of this beloved Mexican dessert was a revelation – moist, sponge cake soaked in a luscious mixture of three milks, topped with a cloud of fluffy whipped cream and a berries, leaving us in dessert heaven.

Let’s not forget the flan-tastic finale to our brunch odyssey – the Mexican Flan. This creamy custard, delicately infused with hints of caramel, melted on our tongues was the ultimate crescendo to our Easter brunch.
