Thank U, Next. Us to 2022. Let’s celebrate the new year with some sophisticated black and white party ideas. We hosted a black and white New Year’s Eve party several years ago, but our party styling and photography have come a long way since then. This year, we partnered with Mikasa and CV Linens to host a gorgeous black and white party for New Year’s Eve. We are excited to share our black and white party ideas with you.

Black and White Party Ideas: How to Create a Beautiful Tablescape
Oh my gosh, Becky look at her backdrop. You’ve probably seen those over the top, gorgeous fabric backdrops at a wedding or baby shower and thought that’s out of my budget. With some Twinspiration and CV Linens, you can DIY a gorgeous backdrop for your black and white party. Our color palette was black, white and silver. Always have at least three colors in your color palette (two isn’t enough).
Sparkling in the new year like… For our black and white party, we started with two white poly premier fabric drapes, next we added two silver square payette sequin drapes on each side. Then we added black spandex fabric drapes. You could leave them just like that, but we used a drape clip to tie the black and silver drapes and better frame the white drapes. This was our first time draping and it’s a lot easier than it looks.
Shiny happy people. Next we dressed the table with a silver large payette sequin tablecloth. The centerpiece was a mix of black, gray and white foam roses. Foam roses are easy to work with and best of they last more than a week… i.e. forever. Just assemble with floral foam. You can DIY this arrangement well before your black and white party. We placed silver candle sticks at then end of the table.
Sparkle into the new year. You can create a beautiful black and white party tablescape for New Year’s Eve with Mikasa tableware, drinkware and flatware. Each place setting featured a Silver Reef Charger Plate. We mixed and matched the Mikasa Swirl Black with Graphite Ombre Coupe and Mikasa Swirl White Coupe collections for dinner plate, salad plate and soup bowl. We also added Mikasa Delano Gunmetal flatware, a Mikasa Cheers Flutes and a Mikasa Cheers Old Fashioned Glass. We also tucked a Black Satin Napkin under the dinner plate.
Pop the bubbly. We have been drinking wine, cocktails and water in the Mikasa Cheers collection for years. These whimsical glasses features dots, lines, or swirls, which make it easy to identify your glass. Best of all, they are also dishwasher safe. We filled the water glasses with the Cheers Pitcher.
Black and White Party Ideas: The Food
I’ve bean thinking about you. A black and white party must have black and white foods too. We started with a black bean soup and served it in the Mikasa Swirl White Serving Bowl. This soup is quite hearty, healthy and easy to make. We topped it with sour cream and cilantro.
You and I are meant to bean. We plated the black bean soup in the Mikasa Swirl White Coupe Bowls. We put the sour cream in a squeeze bottle and made a swirl design. Then we added some cilantro and black and white sesame seeds for some additional texture.
You’re pasta-tively amazing. For the main, we served Cod with Squid Ink Fusilli. You can’t get more black without food coloring than squid ink pasta. We served the Squid Ink Fusilli in the Mikasa Swirl White Serving Bowl and the Cod in the Mikasa Swirl Graphite Round Platter. Should be obvious but remember to serve and plate the white foods in black dishes and the black foods in white dishes. That’s how the foods will pop in person and in photos.
Squid pro quo. We plated the Squid Ink pasta in the Mikasa Swirl White Coupe dinner plate and topped it with the cod, black truffle oil, Parmesan, salt and cilantro.
Cookies N’ Dreams. What’s better than OREOs and Cheesecake? How about Mini Oreo Cheesecakes? We plated dessert on the Mikasa Swirl Graphite Round Platter. We topped the mini cheesecakes with crushed OREOs or OREO halves. You can never have enough OREOs.
O OREO, OREO. Wherefore art thou my OREO. We plated the Mini OREO Cheesecakes on the Mikasa Swirl Black with Graphite Ombre Coupe Salad Plate. This dessert is easy to make. Make sure to use a cupcake pan and cupcake liners.

Black Bean Soup

- 4 cups Chicken Broth
- 2 Tsp Cumin
- 1 Tsp Oregano
- 1 Tsp Coriander
- 1/2 Tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 1 Tbsp Lime Juice
- 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
- 1 Jalapeno
- Cilantro
- Black and White Sesame Seeds
Instructions
- Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large pan.
- Chop onions, slice carrots and use a garlic press (or mince the garlic by hand).
- Rinse the black beans (keep one can separate from the other two).
- Add the onions, garlic cloves and carrots and cook until onions are soft and glossy, about 10 minutes.
- Add 2 of the black bean cans, chicken broth, oregano, coriander, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt and Jalapeño and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover and simmer gently for about 15 minutes.
- Use an immersion blender to purée the black bean soup until smooth and creamy. (You can use a regular blender to puree the soup, but an immersion blender is a lot easier.)

Black and white is always classy. I don’t think it could be any less.
I like Mikasa plates. They offer a variety of designs that are forever Classic.
These pieces are so pretty and the table setting looks so amazing! You have great taste an style and checking a few of the pieces out for myself!
Black and white usually conjures up something more formal, but why not? I usually go for more casual, colorful parties, but black and white is a good change of pace.
Such an elegant setup. I like how you have everything decorated in black and white, and the foods you added make it even more special.
These black and white party ideas with Mikasa are absolutely stunning! The elegant and timeless theme is perfect for any occasion.
This is a great color scheme. Who would’ve guess that black and white could look so nice?
I love the idea of hosting a black and white party! Think of all the things you could do with cookies and cream desserts towards the end of the event.
