Best Rooftop Bars in Chelsea: Gallow Green
Gallow Green is located atop the McKittrick Hotel on 27th Street between 10th and 11th Avenue. The McKittrick Hotel is known for for its one-of-a-kind experiences including Sleep No More, live concerts, music festivals, and chic masquerade soirées for Mayfair, Halloween and New Year’s Eve. Once you get on the elevator you’ll immediately be transported out of the concrete jungle and to a gorgeous rooftop garden. This rooftop offers stunning Hudson River views as well as a look at the city’s iconic skyline.
Gallow Green is open from 5PM to 12:00AM on Monday to Wednesday, and 5PM to 1AM on Thursday to Saturday. They are not currently open for brunch. We have had brunch here in the past and it was fantastic, so hopefully this changes soon.
Best Rooftop Bars in Chelsea: What to Order to Drink?
Hakuna some vodka. We started with the Sleep No More, one of the signature cocktails, and the World’s Fair. This gorgeous drink is made with vodka, elderflower, butterfly-pea flowers, citrus and cider. The butterfly-pea flowers give the cocktail it’s natural purple color. We are actually quite familiar with these flowers because they are also used in Empress Gin. If you like empress Gin, definitely order the Sleep No More. Our favorite cocktail was the Sleep No More with its gorgeous purple color, the citrus flavor and the fresh fragrance from lavender garnish.
If you are more of a Mezcal person, go with the World’s Fair, which is made with Mezcal, green tea, Yuzu and cucumber. This round of cocktails was the perfect way to start our meal.
With our mains, we paired the Lobster Roll with a HIEDLER Grüner Veltliner from Austria. This light, crisp white wine has notes of green apple and honey.
We also ordered the Field Theory Mourvedre. We are usually Pinot Noir drinkers, so our waitress recommended the Mourvedre since they didn’t have a Pinot by the glass. This wine paired with our Duck Sheppard’s Pie.
Best Rooftop Bars in Chelsea: What to Order for Dinner?
The world is your oyster. We started our meal at one of the best rooftop bars in Chelsea with Oysters and Calamari. The oysters were light, fresh and delicious. They were served with lemon, cocktail sauce and Mignonette sauce.
Are you squidding me? So we liked the Oysters, but we loved the Calamari. The Calamari was perfectly fried and served with marinara sauce and tartar sauce. This is some of the best calamari we’ve had in NYC this year. Order both apps and share with a friend. The oysters are lighter, while the calamari is fried.
A round of a-claws for the mains. We shared the Lobster Roll and the Duck’s Sheppard pie. We knew we would like the Lobster Roll, which featured a fresh juicy lobster salad on top of a potato roll and served with potato chips. This dish paired nicely with the Grüner. We’ve never had Sheppard’s Pie because it’s usually made with beef (and we don’t eat beef). This dish was a surprise hit. Definitely order it, especially if you’ve never had it before. It was rich and creamy and the duck was cooked perfectly. This dish paired better with the Mourvedre.
Just pudding it out there. We concluded our meal with a rich, Sticky Toffee Pudding with with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was a bite of dessert heaven at one of the best rooftop bars in Chelsea.
