Happy Fourth of July everyone! We celebrated the holiday in Park City, Utah with our family. Lucky for us, Park City has the largest July Fourth celebration in the state. We swam, hiked, white water rafted and watched the historic parade on Main Street. We highly recommend visiting Park City not only during ski season, but also during the gorgeous summer.
Everyone recognizes Park City as a world-class ski destination. But did you know the city comes alive with outdoor activities in the summer? Summer lasts longer with beautiful weather well into October. As an added bonus, summer hotel prices are significantly lower than winter rates and Park City is a short 40 minute drive from the Salt Lake City International airport.
We stayed in a beautiful three bedroom condominium at the Silver Baron Lodge, which is conveniently located near the base of Deer Valley Resort. Our rustic condo featured a full kitchen, spacious dining and living room areas, multiple fireplaces and a private jacuzzi. The staff here is AMAZING, and the Silver Baron also offers complementary shuttle service to dining and nightlife on Main Street. After settling into our accommodations, we jumped into the pool. Dylan and Keira loved the slide (and to be honest, so did we).
Park City has many ways to enjoy the outdoors: hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, rafting and adventure parks. Canyons Resort, Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort offer miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking. You can also enjoy the gorgeous mountain views by riding one of the gondolas or chair lifts. Canyons and Park City Resorts offer ziplines, an alpine coaster, fishing, and horseback riding. We had a blast at Park City Mountain. Dylan slid down the alpine slide, rode the rollercoaster, played mini-golf, bounced on the trampoline, rock-climbed and zip-lined. Keira, who is two and half, was a bit young for most of the activities, but she loved riding the alpine slide and jumping on the trampoline.
We also went white water rafting in the Weber River with All Seasons Adventures. We rafted class III and IV rapids in Costa Rica and Panama, but this was still fun since Dylan was able to participate. This river featured class II rapids and is safe for children above four. Dylan loved it, and the views were beautiful. Our older sister and brother-in-law also enjoyed fly fishing and mountain biking.
The Fourth of July in Park City centers around Main Street and City Park. An Air Force flyover kicks off the parade at 11:00 AM and features over 70 floats and live music performed by Mariachi Zavala, the Salt Lake Scots Pipe Band, the Salt Lake Saints and the Park City High School Marching Band. Dylan and Keira had a great time watching the parade and waving their American flags. After the parade, we walked to City Park where the kiddos had their faces painted. City Park also offers a playground, bounce house, and other children’s games and activities.
For dinner, we prepared some USA inspired tacos. We love placing a twinspirational spin on traditional items! We shaped our taco filling into an American Flag. We prepared the ground meat, and placed it into a rectangular serving dish. We then used shredded cheese and cherry tomatoes to make the stripes. Lastly we used the meat/black beans to make the stars. For dessert, we served American cookies, watermelon and mixed berries.
Dining Favorites:
- Lunch at Royal Street Cafe. You must try the kale and quinoa salad and blueberry mojitos. You can play bean bag toss while waiting for your table.
- Brunch at Stein Eriksen Lodge. Massive, diverse brunch which included quinoa and beet salads, fruit and cheese platters, sushi, made to order omelettes and waffles. The kids loved the food, especially the desserts. If dining outside you can take in the beautiful mountain views.
- Dinner at Grappa, Chimayo and Riverhorse. Most restaurants in Park City are kid friendly.
- Dinner at No Name Saloon. You must try one of the buffalo burgers. Everyone in your party must be 21, even just for dinner.
- Deer Valley Grocery Cafe is convenient for quick bites. The tandoori chicken curry wrap is amazing. If you are looking for a full grocery store, check Whole Foods and The Market.
