Havana, ooh na-na! If you are in the mood for Cuban food, then you have to dine at Chef David Burke’s Son Cubano. This restaurant puts a modern upscale spin on traditional Cuban fare. We are excited to share one of the restaurants with the best views of NYC with you. It’s Cuba Gooding good.
Outdoor Dining at Restaurants with the Best Views of NYC
Son Cubano is located in West New York. Have you been to West New York before? It’s actually in New Jersey and right across the Hudson. The views of the NYC skyline are spectacular. Son Cubano refers to Cuban music that blends Spanish guitar with African rhythms and Bantu and Arará percussion. The restaurant celebrates the elegance, glamour and music of 1950s Havana.
Chef David Burke is the Culinary Director of Son Cubano. We recently dined at his other restaurants, Woodpecker and Mister French. Son Cubano is open Sunday to Wednesday from 12:00PM to 10:00PM and Thursday to Saturday from 12:00PM to 12:00AM. There are 3 rooms for dining: The Patio, the Vista Room and the Havana Room.
What to Order to Drink?
We started with a round of cocktails including: the Permanent Vacation, the Chica Collins and the Billionaire. Our favorite was the Permanent Vacation. This delicious vodka cocktail combines passion fruit, black tea and lime. Our dad loved the Billionaire. If you like bourbon, go with the Billionaire.
Our colorful cocktails were almost too pretty to drink!
We also ordered a Sauvignon Blanc with dinner.
What to Order for Dinner?
Taco ’bout awesome. We recommend starting with the Lobster Tacos, The Ceviche Salad and the Guacamole. The Lobster Tacos were our favorite. The Guacamole had a unique twist with mango, pineapple and these beautifully shaped plantain and taro root chips.
Our mains included the Snapper, the Salmon and the Roasted Chicken. Our favorite was the Snapper. The fish was perfectly cooked and the red pepper broth and coconut rice were a bite of heaven. We could have eaten this all day. It was sofishticated.
For dessert, we shared the Quatro Leches, Guava and Cream Cheese Empanadas and the Maduros Ice Cream Sundae. Our favorite was the Quatro Leches. We’ve had Tres Leches many times, but never Quatro Leches.
Manhattanites, Jersey Guys and Girls head over to Son Cubano for excellent Cuban food, music, views and more. It’s also a great location for dinner with family or friends as well as birthdays, special events, holiday parties and corporate events.
P.S. The view from Son Cubano gets even better at night. You can also check out Woodpecker, Mister French and Outdoor Dining section for more recommendations.
The roots of Cuban music are in my head.

Son Cubano looks like a great place for a family or for a quiet couple dinner! I like the ambience and the price list seems reasonable too…
