Forty and fabulous! We are 4 perfect 10s today. We celebrated our 40th first with a birthday trip to Napa, a birthday dinner at Claudette and a pretty in pink 40th birthday photoshoot. Birthday photoshoots for kids or adults can be easily taken at home. All you need is a color palette, balloons, cake, champagne and a birthday dress. We recommend shooting near a window to get as much natural light into the shots. We are excited to share our 40th birthday photoshoot with you.
40th Birthday Photoshoot: Color Palette
We selected a bubblegum pink, hot pink, baby pink, silver and gold color palette. It was a pink wonderland. This reminded us of our pink birthday party for our 31st birthday on Kanchana’s rooftop. We’ve come a long way since those early theme parties! We have actually hosted quite a few pink parties on the blog from Rosé All Day, Rosé et Blanc, La Nuit en Rosé to Pinknic.
40th Birthday Photoshoot: Cake
You can’t celebrate a milestone birthday without a birthday cake. We’ve baked cakes from scratch in the past but for this shoot, we picked up a Strawberry Shortcake from Whole Foods and added 4 and 0 candles. You don’t have to spend a fortune on a beautiful cake (though we have done that for larger parties too). Mother Mousse is our favorite bakery, and we have ordered cakes from here for our 30th birthday, Shruthi’s 40th Masquerade Ball, Dad’s 70th Bollywood Disco party, Dylan’s Nerf Party, other birthdays, holidays, theme parties and more.
We also had a little fun with the candles.
40th Birthday Photoshoot: Balloons
We air filled 40 pink, hot pink, baby pink balloons from Instaballoons. Pro-tip- ask friends to toss some balloons in the air for some floating shoots. We also filled large silver number 40 balloons with helium.
40th Birthday Photoshoot: Champagne
Pop the bubbly. Celebrating the big 40 can’t get any better without Krug Champagne. We served the champagne in flutes. The champagne also paired nicely with our Strawberry Shortcake. Our friends Alex and Rob gave the champagne to us as a birthday present at last year’s Tiger King party.
We also had an oops, I did it again moment with the champagne.
40th Birthday Photoshoot: Party Dresses
We had a blast at this 40th birthday photoshoot, which you can DIY yourself. It’s fun, easy and affordable. With some Twinspiration, you can celebrate birthdays and milestone birthdays in style.
